PANELISTS
Dr. Abraham completed her undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. She graduated veterinary school from the University of Pennsylvania in 2003. She then completed a one-year rotating internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, and stayed at Red Bank for an additional year as a primary care veterinarian. Dr. Abraham returned to the University of Pennsylvania for her Dermatology residency, which was completed in 2007. She worked as a Dermatologist in private practice at Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital from 2007 until 2011. She then joined BluePearl Pet Hospital in New York City in 2011, and currently works in their Midtown Manhattan and Brooklyn hospitals. She previously served on the Credentials Committee for the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. Her professional interests include antibiotic-resistant skin and ear infections, feline dermatology, and immune-mediated and autoimmune dermatoses.
Dr. Jeanne Budgin trained at Iowa State University and was awarded a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1999. After two years in private practice, she went on to complete her internship in small animal medicine and surgery, post doctorate fellowship in immunodermatology, and residency training in dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania. She achieved diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2005.
After establishing and directing the dermatology and allergy service at the Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers, NY for nine years, she joined Riverdale Veterinary Dermatology in Riverdale, NJ for a five year period.
As a self-proclaimed “cat lady,” Dr. Budgin has a keen interest in feline dermatology, however she is also a true dog lover at heart. Her additional areas of interest include diet and nutrition in the management of allergic skin disease, treatment of drug resistant infections, and immune-mediated skin diseases. Dr. Budgin has published articles pertaining to veterinary dermatology in various journals and has presented at conferences throughout the world.
Dr. Budgin is the former treasurer, vice president, and president of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology (AAVD). She is also one of the very first members and has served on the organizing committee of the North American Veterinary Dermatology Forum for ten years. Dr. Budgin serves as the AAVD representative to the World Association of Veterinary Dermatology (WAVD) and contributes to the education committee of both the WAVD and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA).
Additional appointments include member-at-large of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD) and avid reviewer of the ACVD’s official journal, Veterinary Dermatology.
Finally, and very passionately, Dr. Budgin is co-coordinator of the Global Veterinary Dermatology Education Group, an independent international organization that supports, educates, and empowers veterinarians in underserved areas of the world with an interest in dermatology to lead local ongoing efforts in training and advancement.
Dr. Budgin lives in northern Manhattan with her orange tabby, Pema. Her hobbies include cooking, yoga, photography, and spending time outdoors.
Dr. Klaus Earl Loft graduated from the Royal Agricultural & Veterinary University of Denmark in 1999. Upon graduation, he worked in private practice in Denmark and Sweden. He became increasingly interested in dermatology and allergies and began to focus his caseload on dermatology and worked at his Alma mater for two years before completing an American College of Veterinary Dermatology-approved residency at Michigan State in 2007. He has worked in the greater Boston area and New England since 2007 and worked at the Angell Animal Medical Center’s dermatology service since 2011. His special interests are clinical research in feline dermatology and chronic ear disease.
MODERATOR
Dr. Natalie Theus (“Toyce”) is a graduate of The Ohio State University (OSU). She practiced for several years as a primary care veterinarian before returning to OSU for her dermatology residency and graduate degree. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2012. Dr. Theus is also an active advocate of continuing education for veterinary professionals. In her outside of work time, she enjoys running, dining out, musical theater, and traveling.
